Features

Everything Blungie does, up close.

Start with a tour of five screens, then explore the details behind them. Every screen on this page is drawn from the real app, with its real words, pictures and voices.

Feed. One picture, one word, one meaning. Swipe up for the next card.

Blungie has no English interface. On this page, the app screens show meanings in Spanish as an example. In the app, they appear in your language.

The feed

One card. One word. Everything you need to get it.

Swipe through a vertical feed of picture cards. Each card teaches one meaning of one English word, so nothing competes for your attention.

curiousA2

curioso/a

The curious cat looked inside the box.

El gato curioso miró dentro de la caja.

  1. Artwork that shows the meaning, with no text in the picture.
  2. The English word, with a tap-to-hear AI voice.
  3. A short meaning in your language.
  4. A real example sentence, its translation and its own audio.
  5. Add to learning with one tap.

Try it: double-tap the picture.

  • You choose what to learn

Scrolling past a card doesn't count as learning it. Only the words you add join your review plan.

  • Double-tap to add

Tap “Add to learning”, or simply double-tap the picture. Changed your mind? Remove the word from learning, with an undo.

  • Learned words come back

Every so often, a word you've already learned appears in your feed again, just to check that it's still there.

Step 3 of 7

Next review in about a week

Review

Every word, four short games.

The words you add come back in the Review tab. You recall each one in four different ways, and your answers decide when you'll see it next.

  1. Tap the picture you hear

    Listen and tap the picture

Hear the word, then tap the picture that matches it.

  2. Match

Pair English words with their meanings.

  3. Fill the gap

Pick the word that completes a real example sentence.

  4. Type it in English

Write the word from memory. A hint is there if you need it, and small typos are forgiven.

  • No self-grading

You never rate yourself. How you play sets the date of the next review.

  • Second chances

Missed a word? It comes back once more at the end of the round.

  • Short sessions

Up to 10 words per session. A few minutes is enough.

  • Free practice

Practise whenever you like. Free practice never changes your schedule.

Memory ladder

The better you know a word, the less often it comes back.

Every word climbs a ladder of growing gaps, from ten minutes to six months. Your answers in the games move it up, keep it close or send it back to the start.

  • Good answer: up one rung
  • Hard: half the gap
  • Missed: back to 10 minutes
  1. 10 min
  2. 1 day
  3. 3 days
  4. 1 week
  5. ~2 weeks
  6. Learned ~1 month
  7. 3 months
  8. 6 months
A word counts as learned once you remember it after a gap of about a month.

Reminders

Gentle nudges, never a flood.

Turn on a word of the day and a reminder for when reviews are due. Both are scheduled on your phone, at times you choose.

  • Two a day, at most

Blungie never sends you more than two notifications in a day.

  • Quiet hours

Nothing arrives between 22:00 and 09:30.

  • Private on the lock screen

Notification content stays hidden until you unlock your phone.

  • One tap to pause

“Quiet today” mutes Blungie for the rest of the day.

Streak & progress

Small days add up.

Add a new word or finish a review, and the day counts. Your profile shows your current and best streak, plus a calendar of every day you showed up.

  • Celebrations at the right moment

Streak celebrations come after a session, never in the middle of one.

  • Progress that means something

The Progress screen counts independent recall: right answers given without a hint and without having just seen the word.

Right to left in Arabic

Choose Arabic, and the whole app switches to a right-to-left layout. English words stay left to right, as they should.

Account & data

Start in seconds. Keep your progress when you're ready.

No sign-up is needed: you start as a guest. Sign in with Google or email whenever you want your progress to follow you to another device.

  1. Start as a guest

Open the app and go. No account, no email address.

  2. Sign in to keep it

Use Google or email to save your progress and continue on any Android phone.

  3. Export your data

Save your profile, progress and collections as a file, whenever you like.

  4. Delete your account

Delete your account and your learning history from inside the app.

    How account deletion works

Your guest progress moves with you when you create a new account. It can't be merged into an account you already have.

On the go

A weak signal won't stop a short session.

Blungie keeps your most recent cards and your due reviews on your phone. If the connection drops for a moment, keep going: what you do is saved and synced when you're back online.

  • Your most recent cards stay on your phone.
  • Due reviews are ready for a short session.
  • Your actions sync on their own when the connection returns.
  • It isn't fully offline: search, new content and the first launch need an internet connection.

Good to know

What Blungie is not (yet)

We'd rather you hear it from us.

  • Not on iPhone

Blungie is an Android app for Android 8.0 and newer. There's no iOS or web version yet.

  • Not on Google Play yet

We're getting ready to launch. Until then, every download button here says “Coming soon”.

  • Not a giant dictionary

The library is small and growing. Each meaning gets its own picture, sentences and audio before it goes live.

  • Not human voices

Pronunciations are AI-generated, and the app says so. Translations are AI-assisted and reviewed before they're published.

Blungie is almost here.

For Android 8.0 and newer, with meanings in 12 languages. No ads and no subscriptions in the app today.
