About Blungie

Most learners don't run out of grammar. They run out of words.

You can know every tense and still go quiet when the right word won't come. A word stays with you when you can see it, hear it, meet it in a real sentence and recall it at the right moment. Blungie is built around those four moments.

Four moments that make a word stick

  1. Watercolour

    See the picture

A picture explains the word before any definition does.

  2. serene

    Hear the sound

You hear the word, and every example sentence, read aloud.

  3. The lake looked serene at dawn.

El lago se veía sereno al amanecer.

    Meet it in a sentence

A real sentence shows how the word is actually used.

  4. Type it in English

    sereno, tranquilo

    Recall it on time

Later, you bring it back from memory, right when it's due.

What we believe

Six principles behind every screen.

They decide what we build, and just as often, what we leave out.

  1. Principle 1 of 6: Pictures before definitions

A good picture explains a word faster than a dictionary entry. Every card opens with an image, and the meaning in your language comes right after.

    • cozy
    • fragile
    • walk
  2. Principle 2 of 6: Context over word lists

A list tells you that a word exists. A sentence shows you how to use it. Every meaning comes with three short example sentences, each with its translation.

    1. This room feels cozy.
    2. We sat by the fire in a cozy cabin.
    3. She wore a cozy sweater.
  3. Principle 3 of 6: Recall over re-reading

    Scrolling is not learning.

Seeing a card doesn't count. A word moves forward only when you pull it from memory yourself, in four short games spaced out over days and weeks.

    • Listen & tap the picture
    • Match
    • Fill the gap
    • Type it in English
  4. Principle 4 of 6: Respect your attention

We want you to come back because you want to, not because your phone keeps buzzing. Blungie sends at most two notifications a day, stays quiet at night, and one tap silences it for the rest of the day.

    • At most 2 a day
    • Quiet from 22:00 to 09:30
    • Mute for today in one tap
  5. Principle 5 of 6: Your language first

Meanings, translations and the whole app speak your language. That's 12 languages today, including right-to-left Arabic.

    • Türkçe
    • Español
    • Português
    • Deutsch
    • Français
    • Italiano
    • العربيةright-to-left
    • Русский
    • 日本語
    • 한국어
    • 中文
    • हिन्दी
  6. Principle 6 of 6: Honest by default

No ads and no tracking SDKs in the app today. You can export your data or delete your account from inside the app at any time.
